MIRAGE Indigenous Health Forum 2007 - MIRAGE
The Indigenous Health Forum is a joint event between Sydney University Medical Society and MIRAGE. This year the theme was ‘Health Equality in 25 years’ to coincide with the current campaign to ‘Close the Gap’ in Indigenous life expectancy which currently sits 17 years behind what a non-Indigenous person can expect to live to. More than 40 health and human rights organisations joined this call, which coincided with the 40th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum on 27th May 2007.
The Forum was held at 6:30pm Thursday 31st May 2007 during Reconciliation Week at Eastern Avenue Auditorium, Sydney University. It was attended by more than 350 people; MIRAGE allied health student, medical students, health professionals, academics, community members.
It was decided that this year the Forum would be more interactive, so securing Julie McCrossin on board to MC the event, an inspirational and knowledgeable panel of speakers was organised.
