ROUNDS

ROUNDS, the Rural Organisation of the University of Notre Dame Sydney, joined the NRHSN in July 2008 and has since blossomed as a Rural Health Club. Now with a waddle of medical and nursing students in their midst, ROUNDS holds regular events, both educational and social, which allow its members to expand their horizons, make new friends and to have a jolly good time. Located next to St Vincent's Hospital in Darlinghurst, ROUNDS is not merely for the country bumpkins but also for those who are interested in exploring the possibilities of rural health, finding out what rural health is about, or simply just meeting a bunch of lovely, down to earth university students.

Amongst the activities of 2009, ROUNDS members have ambled to the south coast for an Aboriginal Medical and Cultural Weekend (where they discovered the art of bush medicine, learnt how to throw boomerangs, canoed, bush-walked, dot-painted, cooked damper around a fire and listened to the stories passed down by the original owners of our land), chitter-chattered and piggy-back raced at a Barnyard BBQ, lent a "hand" to hand-paint an Aboriginal Flag for National Reconciliation Week, "scrubbed up" to host a Medical Vacation Scholarship Program for High School students, attended numerous conferences, undertaken fun and exceptionally well-received visits to high schools in the Riverina area, and joined members of other rural health clubs at the Vibe Alive Indigenous Festival in Coonamble.

Recently, one of our members participated in the GPNNT RHSV program in Central Australia. She had an amazing time and encourages everyone to apply for this opportunity in 2010.

ROUNDS members put in an appearance at the RUM Cruise hosted by RAHMS and Mirage and will be attending RAW where we will sponsor the Snake Demonstration..

If you would like more information about ROUNDS or on how to join, please email their club email or contact their NRHSN Senior Representative Annalyse Crane. Notre Dame students may obtain an application form from the medical reception on Level 2.
