FURHS

FURHS (Flinders University Rural Health Society) is a multi-disciplinary student run Rural Health Club (RHC). We have approximately 600 members from varying disciplines including medicine, speech pathology, nutrition and dietetics and nursing.

FURHS organise a variety of events that have a rural health aspect to them - for example we have multi-d nights where guest speakers from different disciplines are invited to speak about what they do and their experience of working rurally, a guest speaker at an informal dinner, social barbecues, first-aid weekends and trips to rural areas (eg. Yorke Peninsula) - just to name a few!

We also encourage students to undertake rural placements and attend national conferences related to rural health. We do this by supporting the students with funding grants, and encourage the information gained from attending these conferences be shared within our club through the club magazine.

The club magazine/newsletter is called "The 4th Leg" and is issued quarterly. It is a great way to share what is happening within FURHS (as a club) and with our members who are having experiences that are related to rural health.

It is a great club to be apart of as it not only provides valuable rural health-related experiences but involves a great group of students to socialise with!

For further information, please got to the FURHS website or email their NRHSN Senior Representative Monique Kanters or Club Co-Chairs Janet Davie (Med) and Amy Stephenson (Nursing).
