WAALHIIBE (Western Australian Allied Health Interested in Bush Experience) is Western Australia's Rural Health Club for Allied Health students from Curtin University, University of Western Australia, the University of Notre Dame, Edith Cowan University and Murdoch University. Established in 2000 in response to the growing concern over the lack of health professionals in rural Western Australia, WAALHIIBE continues to provide clinical education sessions and conferences, rural high school visits, placement opportunities and rural clinical practice information to its members. These activities provide fun and educational experiences for students and may include trips to rural and remote areas, Rural High School Visits, cultural awareness training, Indigenous health nights, Indigenous Community Festival attendance, guest speaker nights, skills evenings, social events and lots more.
WAALHIIBE is administered by Rural Health West. Membership is free and open to all allied health students who have an interest in rural health or want to find out more about the opportunities available for health professionals in the country. Members are supported through mentoring, education and professional and personal development. WAALHIIBE now has over 1000 members.
WAALHIIBE members are all students enrolled in health science courses at Western Australian universities. Members are from urban and rural backgrounds and need only be interested in experiencing rural allied health.
By becoming a member of your Rural Health Club, you are also a member of the National Rural Health Student Network (NRHSN). The NRHSN represents the future of rural health in Australia. It has more than 9,000 members who belong to 29 university Rural Health Clubs from all states and territories. It is Australia’s only multi-disciplinary student health network, bringing together people studying medicine, nursing and allied health, encouraging them to pursue rural health careers. It is important to keep your details up-to-date to ensure your RHC and the NRHSN can keep you informed of everything exciting that’s happening in rural health.
