The integrated rural training pipeline

The Government announced funding of $93.8 million over 4 years in the 2015-16 MYEFO for a new measure, the Integrated Rural Training Pipeline (IRTP). The IRTP aims to retain graduates in rural areas by better coordinating the different stages of training within regions.

The components of the IRTP include:

  • A new rural junior doctor innovation fund to support general practice rotations for rurally based medical interns
  • An additional 100 places in the Specialist Training Programme
  • Establishment of up to 30 Regional Training Hubs

Further details on each component can be found in this fact sheet and the media release.
