Supporting your rural placements

Cooee October 2016 Member Benefit Rural Placement

Rural placements are an integral part of your rural health pathway. Here are a few resources that we have collaborated with the rural training sector on to ensure you get the most out of these placements.

Rural Placements Guide

NRHSN Rural Placements Guide 2015

The NRHSN's Rural Placements Guide has plenty of information and tips to help you prepare and organise your rural or remote placement including a checklist designed to help you remember to take things like a towel, text books and a camera!  There is some information about cultural competency, keeping safe while on placement, managing disclosures and what to do if things don't go as planned.

Please find the guide here.

University Departments of Rural Health – Information about clinical placements for students 2016

The Australian Rural Health Education Network (ARHEN) in consultation with its University Departments of Rural Health (UDRH) have developed a Guide to multidisciplinary university rural placements at UDRH’s across Australia.

The guide provides information on what discipline placements are available, travel and accommodation and contact details for the individual UDRH’s for you to contact.

Please find the guide here.

Rural placement experiences survey

The NRHSN has undertaken a study to obtain feedback regarding rural clinical placement experiences. NRHSN members have been surveyed and the results of this will be published in the coming months. So keep an eye out for this. The findings of this study will help guide the NRHSN’s priorities and advocacy for effective and appropriate rural placements for all health students.
