Indigenous Health Night, 28th May 2015

It was the first year that the event was ran outside, and this provided a very casual relaxed environment. Many students commented that they preferred this approach.

Speakers were all amazing, all taking a very different approach – great relationships formed with Gamarada and the Centre of Excellence in Redfern – potential for future partnerships.

Speakers included:

Sandra Meihubers - public health dentist who has specialised in rural and remote Aboriginal community treatment. She has undertaken extensive research, influenced government bodies and works for AusAID.

Dr Ben Ticehurst - a General Practitioner who lived on a remote Island (Badu) in the Torres Strait working and providing treatment to Indigenous Australians.

Ken Zulumovski - a descendent of the Kabi Kabi nation, graduate of the Djurawang Health Sciences (Mental Health) program at Charles Sturt University and co-founder and Chair of Gamarada Indigenous Healing and Life Training Ltd based in Redfern.

There was huge student participation from both USYD and UND across a variety of disciplines, most prominent being Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry.

Raised ~ $650 for the Yungee healing project.
